I thought the Retro Luxe Lip Kit was going to play an incredible role as a dupe for Kylie Jenner’s Lip Kit. Yes, it does contain a matching lip pencil, and liquid matte lipstick, but that’s just about as much excitement as you are going to get out of this $9 kit.
The formulation is horrible, and the shade selection is meh. There are five shades in total; 3 nude (Echelon, Noble, Reign-isn’t that a Kylie shade?) one vampy berry (Royal), and a red called Regal. Can you guess which shade I chose? Lol.
Okay, so, Regal is not the rich shade of red as it appears on the web and box. Um, looks can be deceiving much? Most definitely. What the shade really looks like is that of a Crayola Crayon in Burnt Orange.
Wonderful! My least favorite color in the crayon box has now been painted on my lips. Yuck!
This was not a flattering lip shade on me at all. No, no, no. It simply did not do. The tone came off as very flat, muted and muddy. Although the formulation is lightweight, and it applied evenly and easily with opaque pigment. The texture was sticky never fully setting into a matte finish. The liquid lipstick was also super drying. Sorry boys and gals, but I am not exactly sure of its longevity. I literally wore it for about five minutes and had to remove the color because it was so uncomfortable to keep sitting on my lips. FYI: I had to use makeup remover wipes. This liquid lipstick did not budge, adding more salt to the wound. My lips were so sore and chapped afterwards. The only positive I found in this lip kit was the lip pencil. It’s very creamy, has nice pigment, and applies smoothly.
Makeup Revolution seriously needs to work on their lipstick formulations. I have yet to fall in love with a MUR lip product. Back to Ulta you go Retro Luxe! It was nice knowing you.
Have you purchased Makeup Revolution’s Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit? What do you think? Love it or hate it?
Stay beautiful! Xo.
